In the Spring 2006 quarter, the Broadcast Design club, with backing from the BCST department, at the Savannah College of Art and Design decided to put on a juried end-of-year exhibition. Only the previous year had seen an end-of-year show, but it was more of an extended montage put together by a few faculty members shown out in the parking lot. As a new club, we had grander ambitions. We managed to pull in over 120 entries in six categories, and rounded up five judges working in the industry for companies like ESPN and Fuel Design to take part in our exhibition.
Early on, we decided on a circus or extravaganza theme. These poster designs set the visual tone for everything created for the event, from the show DVD and judging website to the trophy graphics which were printed on metal and bent into shape.
The show itself was a wild success with a few hundred people showing up to see two live bands play, eat some barbecue, and watch the best of the best motion graphics for the year.
